Bittorrent As Legal As Can Be

BitTorrent client demo from Carl Franklin. He's a wellknown .NET Developer trainer with a big presence on the net. I can highly reccomend his .NET Rocks weekly shows where he interviews wellknown people from the field, just as and his new Mondays podcasts. Because I don't have broadband at home, and am not allowed to install these clients at work :) I was glad to see this podcasting on how to install and use a BitTorrent client. These things (as if you didn't know) are an extension of the P2P system. Downloads are accelerated by making use of the upstream of other users simultaneously downloading the same file as you. This way the load is taken somewhat from the original server, and you have the privilige of faster downloads. Looks promising.

In my opinion however, these clients will not be what they are today. You can see a nice development here from the first P2P networks (the original Napster and it's siblings) to where we are now. In the future this way of working is probably more built-in the internet as a whole. Distributed computing has still a big way to go...

Check out Del.icio.us if you havan't done already. I stumbled upon it several weeks ago (well, actually I was aware of it's existence, but didn't do anything with that knowledge. As an omnireader I'm unable to check everything out that I'm reading about. However, for some reason I decided to look into it, and was amazed at it's simplicity and ease of use. Just visit populars websites on del.icio.us on the site itself, and you'll get a grab about what I mean. I think this is one of the webgoodies that you completely love, or are absolutely indifferent about.

TIP: BugMeNot. Bypass Registration For (Free) News Websites

BugMeNot. Enter the site on which you want to read some article, and often it gives you an access code. I find this very convenient for sites on which you only want to read one article, but don't want to go through the hassle of (free) registration. Besides, I don't like to put my details in more databases than neccessary. Besides Two: I'm having problems with registering when the only purpose is reading news. It OK that a site requires registration for commenting purposes, but not for just reading free content. Of course, it's another matter when content is [aangeboden] for money. But I don't think a sane person would make their paid credentials available via BugMeNot

Interesting Features On My Blog

I was a little bit tired of keeping up with my blogroll by hand. Through time, some blogs loose my interest, and I unsubscribe, new blogs keeps appearing in my feedlist. But, I had to update the blogroll manually. This is really an unneccesary thing to do. There's several ways to keep an updated list of blogs you read on your blog. The one I use now is the BlogLines way of blogrolling: when you make your BlogLines feeds public, you can include a little JavaScript line inside your blog (which does not have to be related to Bloglines of course; that's the nice part of the web, that everyting can be interconnected). This JavaScript does nothing more than presenting the feeds in this particular BlogLines folder on the spot of your choosing. Of course you can display as many feeds as you want: when you want to show more BlogLines folders just add one more of these JavaScripts on your blog. It's quite easy: as you subscribe to new feeds, they appear automatically on your blog. This may all sound very familiar to you, but my hope is some people can use this information to their own ends.

By the way: *after* writing the above I found this blog post on the Leave It Behind blog referring to more cool BlogLines features.
Which showed me a funny thing: most of the times, of course, I too find my information while surfing other sites; and not by dreaming up some new revolutionary programming language, or new way of using VB.NET. However, because of my addiction to reading/surfing chances are I write about something and immediately afterwards find someone else writing about exactly the same subject. I can recommended both sites by the way. The're new for me, but seem to have a fresh bit of info interesting to me at least.

Do you use automatic blogrolls yourselves? Which one, and can you tell why they work for you, or why others don't. I'm very curious for your answers.

apparently 26% of people are nerdier than me. I don't know if that's good or bad :)

Once again a new blog...

...but is the world waiting for it? We'll just have to wait and see... I decided to switch my tactics and stop blogging by using an alias unrelated to my real name. Couldn't think of any other reason anymore than being found by friends and relatives Googling for my name. But why would that be a problem at all. If you arrived here by exactly that method - I'll be checking my referers :) - you're just as welcome as anybody else. And hey, when you're afraid of someone viewing your expressions without you being physically around, one shouldn't be a writer anyhow.
A short introduction: after more than a year of writing under an alias I'd like you to know me by my real name from now on. I'm working on a software/IT department in a small company in the medical field. Location: western part of the Netherlands (Randstad). My interests in keywords are among much more: programming, databases (SQL Server), VB(.NET), ASP(.NET). But whilst my knowlegde is mainly in the Microsoft range of programming tools, things like open source, information security, blogging techniques, new software techniques are also a great attraction to me. And, I'm a real 'consumer', like to soak new information into myself by surfing the web, but also reading good books (see sidebars).
What can you expect from me? Guess you'll see the usual linkfest of -hopefully- interesting references. Will really do my best not to just copycat every other linkblogger, but try to find some things new to you, dear reader.
Well for now it's enough: I'll put this thingie online right away so expect some change over the next weeks
